dowel-holes-with-router-02 To ensure perfectly mating joints, number the joints 1 through 4 on each piece of a four-sided assembly before marking the dowel locations, photo below. TheWoodKnight seamster Reply 3 years ago. Use dowel centers see Sources, bottom of dowel holes with router 02 to transfer dowel-hole positions from the edge of one rotuer to the face of the mating piece. Dry-assemble the joint to test for fit; then carefully disassemble it. Would be aith if members check their strat.

I Table Saw With Router Extension wanna be somewhere else the first time they hit it. Just in case CPM, we bore over the larger. We drill all our holes before heat treat, usually leaving. On the smaller holes, I always use OGS's series exocarb SHP endmill for the final sizing, these tools last forever and hold the size well.

I use the recommended speeds and feeds in the OSG book for the tool. Wire edm for those who commented on that does not Flush Cut Router Bit With Bearing Generator work well in moldmaking, most of the dowel holes are blind and have to be, and jig grinding is painfully slow, plus it's another set up.

Helical bore I do this all the the time E-mill choice is YG X, you can cut up to 70rc Dowel Holes With Router Analysis around sfm.. I will run rc closer to sfm.

A2, M2 Also relief cut into side about. Anyone care to state the accuracy size and location with tolerences you are holding when hardmilling dowels? Those conditions are the result of a bunch of things.

I'm not being argumentative, just trying to qualify the answers. I've made up a test block to go ahead and try this out, have an endmill on order. If clearance is greater than. Here is the way I see this. If your customer is happy with the accuracy and clearances produced by milling dowel pin holes and the tools work as intended and you are satisfied, hey everyone's happy. By all means use this process.

Now, on the otherhand if someone tries to tell me they mill or wire edm to the same positional tolerances and fit tolerances that a jig grinder can hold, I start to write of the conversation as someone who wouldn't truelly understand the tolerances needed for gage work or tight aircraft fixtureing. Same holds true for the crowd that "mill-ream-bores" holes that are almost as good as a single point bored hole.

Don't get me wrong, it the job doesn't call for jig borer or jig grinder accuracy, use the most economical method that will produce satisfactory results.

Just don't confuse the two levels of accuracy. We build tight tolerence tooling and gages. Otherwise I agree with your post. Do you use Wire EDM? It will make a believer out of you if used properly.

This would be using a cylindricity checker such as the ones Talylor Hobson makes. I wouldn't use a CMM to check cylindricity below a few tenths. It would not be uncommon to have a say. This could be our machines which are all newer Fanuc machines, or our choice of wire. Last, we make jet engine fuel controls for all major the engine makers. Every one of these companys GE, Pratt and Witney, Rolls Royce all require thier approval before we edm any aircraft part.

This of course isn't required on tooling. This is due to what is called a "recast layer" left by any edm. This is basicly a layer. This surface softening isn't a concern in most cases such as ports and things. If the tool in question will be having a pin egaged in and out of it alot you will see permature wear in the hole due to this surface anialing. If the hole gets a pin pressed or bonded in it's not a concern. Knowing these things makes it not worth while to pursue edming of the holes that I would be comfertable using this method.

If you have a lot of holes that due meet these requiriments then it is defently worth pursueing. KilrB, our recast layer testing was done in the mid 90's when companys started requireing aproval for edming. We tried to dispell the notion that edming didn't anial a part to a depth of. This wasn't taken lightly because it is a royal pain to get approval from some companys. I've spoken to two of our metalurgists on this subject and what they tell me makes sence to me. That is you can't expect to get metal hot enough to melt away and not expect to effect it's heat treatment to some degree.

That is why I will never choose an edmed surface on a post heat treated part as a wear surface. And both seem to have those dowel holes on the front as well as on the back, on the location usually indicated.

My 86 AVRI is CAR finish which is very worn out, and I noticed it has developed similar round checking spots on the dowel holes location, all the same size of about 3mm in diameter. The other is less obvious because right under couple checking lines. I think I can see another one on the back too, but is on the darkish part of the SB finish. Do you guys have any info on this?

Would be interesting if members check their strat. I have no idea if this is specific to reissues. Yves likes this. Messages: 8, Last edited: Jul 17, Percy , Jul 17, Messages: 5, So could it be that some remainder of old stock bodies, cut still using those clamps, were still being used when assembling RI strats over the 80s?

Yves , Jul 18, Messages: 3, Mr Dunlop , Jul 18, Boris Bubbanov , Jul 18, So the CS have the dowels - at least some of them. Check out the dowell holes on this reissue Percy , Jul 19, The Fender Telecaster book AR Duchossoir confirms the reissues telecaster were made using the pin router.

Those holes are made by pin router template. Fender started using the vacuum clamping suction device and the holes disappeared sometime after the switch to Corona Those dowel marks are on the early AVRI till sometime after the switch to Corona.

Mr Dunlop , Jul 19, Age: 60 Messages: 36, I have no idea what this thread is all about. Dowel holes?
