In the quick action wood vise of getting our green on, we compiled this list of shamrock-shaded workshop helpers and project supplies that you can find at your local Woodcraft store. The standard woodworking vise comes in the form of metal and quick action wood vise large jaws that clamp small as well as large pieces of vjse. How are ratings calculated? Generally, once you decide on a particular style of vise, the more you spend, visw better the quality and effectiveness of that vise. Too much clamping force, however, can cause boards to bow up.

My guess is the seller found it in a warehouse and either didn't bother or was not able to clean the item prior to shipping. One person found this helpful. Works great! Seems to be just what I needed, however, there is a part that is not included in the orginal purchase and is impossible to find. It is the heavy duty "screw" that goes through the standard base that attaches it to the workbench! Big part of the whole system.

Seems we'll have to "improvise" which will not be as good a system as we had hoped for. If you have any information as to how to find this part, or why it wasn't included, please let me know. It comes with a separate base, more can be purchased There is supposed to be a mount that lets you clamp it to the edge of your workbench without drilling any holes but I haven't seen one or found it in any of the stores I looked in. The thing about this vise that isn't very apparent without using it, is that you slide the jaws by hand until your work is pressed between the clamping surface, the rubber covers are easily removable.

Then you turn the handle until it's tight. When your turning the knob, the jaws will close down a little bit more until everything is as tight as you need it to be. The knob only turns for one rotation or so. It is only used to clamp down your work after you've placed it where you want it to be and pulled the jaws together to hold the work, they don't back up at that point. For the money I couldn't find a better vise. To acquire something as comparable, spec wise, you will spend a lot more money.

It would be a lot heaver also! It is rugged and seems very durable. After tearing open the cardboard packaging I spent the better part of ten minutes trying to figure out how the darn thing was supposed to attach to the workmate. How much could it possibly cost American Tool aka Rubbermaid to include this little nylon screw? Now I have a useless to me vice for which I must attempt to locate an optional part.

The maunfacturer has no convenient way to order the part through their website and none of the retailers I've found carry it. From reading the posts of others here I must assume it is possible to find this missing part, but what a hassle! If I ever have a chance to use this item on my workmate, I may revise my rating. For now, this tool earns one star The workmate accessory requires the base piece to function, so you may want to get both the extra base and the workmate adapter if you want to attach to your workmate.

From the manufacturer's website I bought this with my workmate, on the box it came in shows two bases one standard and the other so you can attach it to your workmate. Looking at the box it seem to say it isn't standard, so I figured that the base it came with can be attached to the workmate was included, it isn't. Another problem is that I can't find anywhere to buy the other base so it can be attached to the workmate.

This is a very handy vise because it can be taken to any place where it is needed, and it is light. Unfortunately, the portable workbench base accessory for the "workmate" workbench was not offered for purchase by See all reviews.

I received this vise in a few days ago. I had to send one back The things I like about this vice is the quality is better. The Dog is metal. The quick release is sturdy and works with ease. It has a wider stance than the blue one. I did add some leather to the inside so not to scar up the wood I'm working on. I will probably get another to have at multiple stations.
