Do I have to use vinyl sealer under lacquer? What does it do? Mar 1, 1. Posts: I have read quite a bit about spraying vinyl sealer under lacquer.
What is the purpose of the vinyl sealer? Is it used to seal the body because it reached full cure quickly. Will the vinyl sealer effect my stained finish color or clarity?
Can I seal the body with lacquer, sand it, and then keep spraying it? I can't shake the feeling I'm spraying plastic onto my guitar body. Am I nuts??? Mar 1, 2. Posts: 8, You can use vinyl sealer , you can use dewaxed shellac as sealer , you can use lacquer as sealer , you can use lacquer sanding sealer , you don't have to use vinyl sealer if you are uncomfortable with it , I use vinyl sealer under lacquer most of the time , it builds quick , dries quick and sands quick , I've never had any bad results using it , I've also used thinned lacquer as sealer , I look at it as getting the wood sealed 1 and then getting a nice smooth base to get my color coats and finish coats on.
I've not had any issues with vinyl sealer clouding the stain. I usually get enough sealer on and sand it down nice and smooth , if I sand through I'll hit it with a bit more and sand it smooth again , then I'll go to my color or clear coats. Mar 2, 3.
