How to add simple inlay to your woodworking projects – Woodworking for Mere Mortals

Inlay Bandings made from solid, face-cut woods! See the difference. Most banding strips are 36" long. Check the particular banding for length. These are thicker than most commercial bandings. Thicknesses are approximately " (about 1mm or 3/64") and vary slightly for some lots. To install the inlay, just squeeze some wood glue into the grooves and press the strips in place. There’s usually no need to clamp them, but if they fit a little loose, you can hold them in place with some painters tape. Plane or sand them down flush to the workpiece. Inlay Lines / Borders: These premium inlay borders add a distinctive touch to furniture, boxes, restoration pieces and much more. Quality construction aids installation and reduces time in the finish room. Installation is easy, simply rout a groove to the proper width and depth with a straight cut router bit and glue the banding in place.
