Some reviews said it was dangerous as the switch was in a bad place. Listen, I am a carpenter of 45yrs, if you think this machine is dangerous, lock up you workshop and through the key away, you are going to kill yourself just switching on a light. I use this a lot, not so much the disc but the belt.
I bought a lot of belt and is use if on wood and even when making knives. This is a small, solid machine that so far I am very impressed with. I have a bench grinder, 3 inch belt sander, wet grind wheel, many angle grinders, more than enough grinding equipment one would think. In fact this machine adds genuine capability, and is a really useful tool. The ground aluminium beds are solid and flat, and held on with clarke belt and disc sander spares google screws.
The belt sander allows real precision in grinding items like knife blades, and with the addition of a simple jig I am achieving great results, taking a blade from rough shaping to a mirror polish.
I would love a 2 x 72 belt grinder, but for mainly hobby use this machine is a great way to produce an accurate bevel clarke belt and disc sander spares google a blade without shelling out the best part of a grand. It is also extremely versatile. Used it yesterday to skive the edges of some leather patches for a shoe repair, and it performed perfectly. Clearly it is slow compared to a 2 x 72, but for me this is not a production tool.
I just need to achieve the result, and the time it takes is not so important. The build quality seems solid for a home gamer tool, and it is not made to look like a clarke belt and disc sander spares google rocket like so many modern plastic shel tools.
It is simple, functional, and I would recommend it for light to moderate use. Very pleased. It arrived quickly and was pretty easy to put together. The belts are pretty quick and easy to change as long as you're happy to bypass the only clarke belt and disc sander spares google safety features that it has and it grinds pretty well.
If you're going to go for one of these lower powered grinders then a 1x30 is your best choice as it is far less likely to get bogged down that one with a wider belt that contacts more of your blade. I have only managed to bog this down and stop it once across grinding three knives up to grit. For convenience just leave the side off and remove the clear top part.
This means you just adjust the tracking knob to get the belts on and off. Important when you are switching belts every 10 minutes.
Frankly I wish the product was cheaper and they just didn't include the disc sander. I don't use it and it's a flipping liability. I have put tools and my hands on what I have mistakenly thought of as a 'side table' too many times only to catch my finger or have a tool clarke belt and disc sander spares google off or clarke belt and disc sander spares google me.
Does it grind steel? Pretty well actually. Is it powerful enough to shape small knives and get them up to a good clarke belt and disc sander spares google If you want to get into little nooks and crannies on your blade you just can't, there is not enough room around this thing to swing a gnats cat. Flat grinds and slack grinds, sure as long as you only need a few inches of either.
Anything else. Don't get me wrong, for most knives this is actually pretty good. Having the slack area would be great. If the top wheel was a decent contact wheel this thing would be a real winner but you can't really grind anything on the top wheel as it grinds horrifically.
The gap for getting belts in and out plus the width of the slot means that I can't grind comfortably across it, my knives just drop down into the gap which is neither comfortable or safe. It's not designed for this use really. You could fix it by fitting a new surface across it and you can adjust the table forwards a little clarke belt and disc sander spares google makes it somewhat better.
I've put high quality ceramic belts on it and as the area is so small steel just chews them up. You will use up your belts super quick These belts are cheap as chips so not too much of an issue but just be aware. You will need a lot of them. Am I glad I bought it? Kind of. Getting my hands on a grinder meant that I could actually start making knives. A real boon for my enthusiasm. Turning out finished products quickly has helped me a lot and I could technically keep working on this thing for as long as the motor will last but after a few hours of sitting in front of this thing I really wish I had saved a little more and just bought the real big boy grinder for knife making from the start.
I would still recommend this style of grinder over any others that are available through amazon. The bigger belts just don't have the room around them, a slack area or motors powerful enough to drive them on steel to make them as useful as something like this IMO.
A lot smaller than I expected but that's ideal as I only have a small workshop. I was expecting to have to bolt it to my work bench but it runs very smoothly and doesn't move an inch whilst it's running.
I'm only using it to sand and shape pallet wood but it rips through the wood like it's not even there, it's just what I needed, I only wish I'd got one sooner!!
I have other belts on order and have not tried them yet, 60 grit for example but the supplied belt and clarke belt and disc sander spares google usage so far has given me confidence that giving a blade a bevel will be doable, maybe a bit longer, but certainly a sander capable of it.
