Duck, I have the Porter Cable 8" grinder from Lowes and it runs quiet and smooth. I'm thinking the Rikon has to be as good or better than my model. Most of the vibration will come from the wheels. I have a cheap, old, grinder festing came with the house. It vibrated badly until I removed the wheels, removed the labels,reinstalled and dressed the wheels. Now it runs pretty smooth.

Duck, glad it worked out for ya. I've made purchases before that I wish I hadn't and others that made me wonder why I didn't buy sooner! I own the Grizzly 8" slow speed grinder. Haven't used the Rikon or the Tormek but I've been satisfied with the Griz.

My guess is the Rikon is comparable. Woodcraft used to have a slows speed grinder under their own brand I think, too hot to go out and look which I have, The Ricon appears identical to it, other than the labeling.
