Are you new to programming and to Python? Designs for Feather format board carriers that mate with Lego blocks for quick hardware prototypes — Twitter. Two new versions of ulab, a numpy-like number crunching library, have been released. These versions implements a numpy-compatible interface, and adds a couple of new functions, as well as a number of fixes for bugs while writing the manual.

The change in the interface was a recurring request from the community and is meant to simplify porting of numpy code from a PC. Since CircuitPython is still using the old interface, the fixes have been backported and released as v. The CircuitPython-compatible version is going to stay alive on the legacy branch , and will receive regular updates and bug fixes until CircuitPython decides to adopt the numpy-compatible interface — GitHub.

This week I did some general guide work, including fixing up a couple of guides that had minor issues. One needed a different schematic and fab print, and another needed an extra Fritzing diagram.

I worked with Dylan on getting the majority of libraries updated to using the latest version of Black. There were a couple of updates to the templates we use for creating libraries that needed to be applied to all libraries before they were added to the templates, so Dylan did that in the same process.

This ended up involving manually adding new license formatting to all of the existing libraries, and therefore PRs for all of them. This past week I worked with Jeff to get a workaround in place for an issue that came up with a recent kernel release for the Raspberry Pi which resulted in a garbled screen.

The workaround will basically roll back the kernel to an older version before the issue came up. I also finished a big project of getting the PyPortal refactored to use PortalBase and kept full backwards compatibility with the previous library. This is a project that I had started before the holiday break and I had to come up with some workarounds that I was getting stuck on. The repositories were all set up already, so this mostly involved enabling GitHub pages on each repo and updating the paths, though I did run into one issue where the CSS was missing.

Copying it from glitch and uploading it to GitHub fixed that issue. So, lots of odds and ends. I did my first stream of the year where we went and looked back at past CircuitPython annual plans. The Executive Director will work with the board to build a bridge to a stronger future for OSI and the open source ecosystem.

The candidate will set strategic direction and move the Open Source Initiative towards our vision, working with the Open Hardware Summit Uk staff and community to achieve measurable program outcomes. This role is ideal for the experienced executive director who can take organizations to the next level.

The candidate can set strategy and translate it into programmatic results, achieved through organizational leadership and operational excellence. Plus, the candidate excels at managing ambiguity and drives for clarity and impact. You were an electronics hobbyist before becoming a programmer. How did you get started in electronics? I remember that from the last grade in elementary school and probably through my second year in university, electronics kits and my own designs were one of my big passions.

In elementary school, I took one of the first projects I built into class as a show and tell project. There was no one who understood what it was or why it was interesting or cared. I just know that I took it in, and it fell flat. All in with Python, from the YouTube comments. How open source programming can offer opportunities after incarceration — opensource.

Here are the top 10 CircuitPython libraries downloaded from PyPI in the last week, including the total downloads for those libraries:.

This past week has seen us close in on the end of the actions migration project. Finally, late last week, I wrote my CircuitPython post with my thoughts, hopes and aspirations for CircuitPython in the coming year. Now you can pair a CircuitPython device just once, and have it reconnect automatically after that.

I wrote a CircuitPython post, reviewing my CircuitPython post goals and adding some new thoughts. Now that bonding is finally done, I can go on and fix some remaining CircuitPython 5. In the longer run, I would like to revamp timekeeping inside CircuitPython, so we can do low-power sleep. I also received positive reactions to thoughts about asynchronous programming and multitasking in my CircuitPython, and would like to start revisiting that again.

Over the last week, I worked on finishing up a few things associated with the Circuit Playground library update. I attempted to add friendly error handling to the Express module in the event that you try to import Bluefruit-only features, and ran into the stack size being too small again. This update will require increasing the stack size again, and therefore has been put on hold for now.

I created four new Fritzing objects. Next up is the guide for the ItsyBitsy nRF, so keep an eye out for that soon. I also completed my CircuitPython post. Thank you to everyone involved in CircuitPython. You make it what it is.

I spent this past week working on fixing a number of bugs for the next release, including some old busio issues with SPI and I2C, and a lot of stylistic cleanup that made things more consistent between old and new code. I also worked with Scott on resolving an issue with the UF2 bootloader on the upcoming Meowbit board, which should go a long way toward making UF2 possible on all of the STM32 boards.

This past week, I have been working on adding lots of additions to Blinka, our CircuitPython library compatibility layer for Raspberry Pi and other Single Board Computers. You can check out the LED Backpack guide here.

For the library itself, I have been porting over some functions from other libraries such as a marquee function for the Segmented Displays and a shift function to animate much easier on the LED Matrix displays.
