Sorry, doug, I hate QC toolposts. I use them every day at work, and find myself cursing them more often than not. In a production setup, they are extremely handy repetitive work , but for the one-off homeshop, I'll stick with my Armstrongs. The post itself gets in the way, often as not.

The smaller toolposts tend to swivel under heavy cutting loads as bad or even worse than an Armstrong, due to the long moment arm with the holder hung out one side. Seems the tool I need is never the one in the "QC" holder, so that means 4 allen screws to change what is one allen screw on an Armstrong.

If I need to swivel the post, I not only have to get another wrench Armstrong swivels and changes at the same time , I lose my place, anyway, as the TP is no longer square to the work. As long as you have an endless supply of holders and pre-ground bits for every imagineable occasion, I guess a QC might be a little handier I also use actual Aloris and Dorian QCs at work. They are of much nicer construction quality, but still have the annoying limitations of a QC.

I have a small German made Multifix "A" and it has two 6mm dowl pin holes in the body which are transferred into the compound slide. Slip fit and easy to remove if you have to.

The Swiss tool posts also have the two dowel holes in the bottom of the splined post. You can make a spacer to raise the post to optimal height for your lathe. The spacer may be made with a tongue to fit the compound T-slot and two matching dowel pin holes to prevent rotation. If you don't need a spacer, then the dowel pin holes can be drilled into the T-nut. I have never used the dowels and have never observed my tool post to rotate.
