I'm an engineer and have designed several parts that are made on metal lathes. I'm wondering why mkcrowaving lathes aren't used for turning. In particular I'm wondering why woodturners don't use a tool holder on a stage or tools that resemble metal lathe tools.

I think wood lathe is more versatile than metal lathe, you can do radiuscontours and different shapes with not much problem, with metal lathe you would need a CNC, that cost thousands of dollars, now for precision and accuracy a microwaving wood for turning question lathe is the way to go in x, y axis, like turninf and diameters and that's it.
