The technique can work if your drawer makes noise, and also works on tight or squeaky doors and windows. The soap simply provides a little long-lasting lubricant. It's possible your drawer is not sliding because the screws are loose. The Home Depot says to Replacing Kitchen Drawer Slides Up first check if any of the mounting screws on the tracks on both the drawer and the cabinet need to be tightened with a screwdriver.
If one or more of the mounting screws is loose because the hole in the wood is stripped, repair the stripped hole by removing the remaining screws and pulling the drawer slide out of the way. Home Tips recommends using wood glue to help in fixing the stripped out screws. Then squirt a small amount of wood glue into the stripped hole. Break off the heads of three or four Kitchen Cabinet Drawer Hardware Replacement Node wooden matchsticks and tap the matchsticks into the stripped hole with a hammer.
Cut off any excess matchsticks sticking out of the hole with a utility knife, then re-install the drawer track. The screw hole that was damaged should now securely hold the screw. Spray a bit of household cleaner onto a clean, dry cloth and wipe down all of the drawer tracks and slides. Inspect the tracks for any areas where they are bent out of shape, and bend them back into position with a pair of pliers.
Inspect each of the rollers for any damage that would prevent the drawer from operating smoothly. If any damage is found to any roller, you likely will need to replace the entire assembly. If the rollers are in good condition, spray each roller's axle with small amount of spray lubricant. Reach into the cabinet and unscrew a small plate at the back of the cabinet that holds the left and right side runners to the back of the cabinet.
Unscrew the small plate at the front of the cabinet. Remove the runners from the cabinet. Take the runners to a home improvement store and buy replacement runners. Separate the runners. Select one runner marked "DL. The wheel should be at the back of the drawer, the front of the runner flush against the back of the drawer front. Repeat the procedure using the other runner marked "DR" on the other side of the drawer.
Place the runner marked "CL" in the cabinet on the left side. The front plate should be horizontal and fit on the wooden face-frame of the cabinet. There is a plate at the back of the runner. It should slide back and come to rest on a wooden runner in the back. Place the runner marked "CR" on the right side and screw it to the cabinet the same way.
Tip the back of the drawer at a degree angle. Insert the wheels on the back of the drawer into slots at the front of the runners. Bring the drawer up horizontally and the wheels will lock into the runners. The drawer should glide back into the cabinet smoothly.
