A DIY Air Filter That Anyone Can Build

Jan 20, · Some of the common particles related to MERV ratings are pet dander, insecticide dust, smog, dust, viruses, wood, tobacco smoke, spores, bacteria and pollen. Some of the most common filters found in residential use only have a MERV rating of 1 to 4. When cleaning a filter with a vacuum, make sure its filter traps the fine dust you remove, rather than simply returning it to the shop air. If your vacuum can’t pull this off—or when using compressed air—clean the filter outside where dust can vent into open air. The filters that I used for this air cleaner measure 16"x20"x1" so I designed my air cleaner to accommodate this size filter. As per the cut list in my FREE PLANS, I cut plywood strips 1" wide and use them to create a frame to house the filters.I measure and mark the locations of the filter frames and attach the strips with wood glue and brad nails.
