Its an exterior wall. The joists have rockwool. Exterior has osb and tyvac wrap the vinyl siding. I know that the styrofoam acts as a vapour barrier as long as all the seams and screeholes are sealed right…. Just wondering if i should first drywall over the styrofoam Diy Small Woodshop Dust Collection Joint first? Or should i also add a 6mm vapour barrier over styrofoam, then drywall, then pine boatds?

O have had to start redoing my oen home myself because ive had a hard time finding someone reliable, who doesnt overcharge or make inappropriate advances. There is SO much contradictory information out there about vapor barriers, which way to have the insulation facing in different climates… I am at a loss for what to do with my own home. I agree…. The window and door casings give you a place to terminate the planks. If you removed them, you would see a gap, or then ends of the planks. Hi- love all your work! You said you have installed plywood, and pine tongue and groove.

We are really not sure which to do. Wood secured to concrete walls generally need to be pressure treated and secured with concrete screws that are pre-drilled. Thank you so much for sharing your tribal knowledge. Then bring the wall up to the ceiling. The highest point of the vaulted wall is probably 15 ft no more than that.

We want to install white planking, but we are trying to decide whether to install it vertically or horizontally. Vertically seems like the easier way to avoid seams in the planks — esp if we have a chair rail — but some say it looks more like outdated paneling. Is it easy to hide seams if installed horizontally?

I love those, too! What trim do you use around the outside corner? Can planks be installed over older wood and over lath…. The lunber mill told me to not use vapour barrier behind tge vloint pine as it could cause mold.

Or…strap the walls vertically , leaving an air gap before pine boards? Or tape paper like big rolls of flooring paper, onto styrofoam then pine boards?

O have had to start redoing my oen home myself because ive had a hard time finding someone reliable, who doesnt overcharge or make inappropriate advances Thank you for your advice.

I just wasnt sure aboutmousture getting trapped behind wood. Thank you for your quick response. How do you secure to concrete wall? Your rooms look beautiful. The planks can be installed on any flat surface that is structurally sound, clean and dry. Do not install as flooring. Cement block, plaster, plywood and gypsum surfaces should have a minimum of one coat of primer sealer prior to installation. Plank installation is not recommended in high-moisture areas such as steam rooms.

For bathroom installations, additional nail-down is recommended. Clean and Dry the Wall Surface. For safety, turn off power to the installation area while working around wall outlets and light switches.

Remove electrical cover plates, protruding nails and loose paint. To remove dirt, sponge wash with TSP trisodium phosphate , available in hardware stores or home centers. Wallplanks can be installed over well-bonded, smooth wallpaper. Textured wallpaper should be removed, and the wall cleaned with TSP prior to installing planks. After walls are cleaned, they must be thoroughly dried. Dry-Lay the Planks. Plan your desired look by dry-laying the planks before permanent installation.

Working from several open cartons, lay them in an open area according to your desired aesthetic and preferred staggered sequence. Trim Pieces. For walls that have inside or outside corners, trim pieces can be purchased separately to create a cleaner finished look.

This line will be your guide to where the planks need to be cut. Trim pieces are designed to overlay the edges of the planks. Trim pieces are not peel-and-stick, and they need to be nailed to the wall using small finish nails, after the entire wall is installed.

Starting Line. There are several ways to establish your starting line. If your baseboard and ceiling are level, you can use one or the other to establish your starting line. However, if neither is level, you will need to establish a level line yourself across the wall. Using the 4' level, pencil a horizontal starting line across your wall at eye level. Important: Do not adhere planks until they are placed in the right position. Once the material is adhered to the wall, it will be very difficult to reposition.

The protruding nails will help you to position the starter plank along the starting line before it is adhered to the wall. This technique cannot be used if installing planks over a block wall. Once again, if you are unable to use nails as a guide, be extra cautious to ensure that your first row is straight. Applying the Planks. Press into place and immediately use the J-Roller over the plank surface. If you placed positioning nails in the wall Step 4 , remove them at this time.

If applying the next row above the first one, be careful to only overlap the underlying shiplap joint. Stagger the Planks. For best appearance, stagger the end joints as you work your way up and down the wall, so that the end joints do not match up from row to row. TIP: To accomplish this look and minimize the waste of plank material, use your cut-off piece from one row to start the next row. Cutting the Planks.
