Our experts have tested and reviewed the best combos available so that you don't   For anyone who has ever planed a piece of wood by hand, you have probably reaped the rewards of a perfectly straight bit of timber, the pride of hard work well done, and a whole mess of calluses. It takes a long time to cut the warp out of cheaper wood, and the higher quality stuff like oak or hickory requires lots of physical power to push the blade across the edge. To improve efficiency, many woodworkers that prefer both quality and speed choose to use an electric jointer planer that does all the work with no ill effects for the user. I do a jointer-planer setup in this video: I bought a second-hand jointer/planer combo machine which I check and adjust in this video. I change the jointer. Find a Store. I removed the front cover from the machine and used a wrench to tighten the rod from the front. Third: The scale for the planer is set in tenths of an inch rather than a standard ruler of 16ths. Our equipment is such high jointeg it lasts and lasts! I have run many feet of hard Second hand jointer planer model wood through this machine with no problems.

I have spoken to several people at JET about this machine, as I am in need of a larger jointer, but have a rather small shop and trying to fit a full-size 10" jointer in my shop would be near impossible.

The people at JET tell me they have put a good bit of effort into fixing the alignment issues that plagued this machine for so long.

My machine will be delivered in about a week, when I plan to get it dialed in and do a serious review. I just wanted to spread the word that JET has made effort to remedy the past issues with this machine. Whether they have or not is something I'm going to find out soon.

Outfeed tables didn't align with infeed. Email to Jet got additional instruction that should have been in manual. Mine now properly aligned. Due to fence flex and light construction, I check alignment before any critical project. I am getting straight jointed edges, and rather little snipe compared to others I have used. When planing, no ripple effect like I see from some expensive planers. I use several light cuts rather that one deep pass.

Change from jointing to planing is a pain, so do as many boards as possible before switching. This reduces the changeover bother, and ensures uniform thickness as well. Some plastic knobs and levers are already broken, but easily replaced with rather standard hardware. I added locking casters and a minor reinforcement to the lower legs, and it stable enough to roll out for use in the driveway. Also, dust and chips result in rougher cuts, so use dust collection or a shop vac, even outside.

I also use an electric driveway blower regularly to keep unit clean while in use. I knew when I bought this that it wouldnt be perfect. I figured I could fiddle with it a bit and have it working well. I was very wrong.

First, every board I jointed was curved. There is virtually no adjustment for the outfeed table and none for the infeed table. It works ok as a planer but the snipe is horrible. I basically bought a big thickness planer as it does not properly joint boards even after hours of adjustments.

Also, there is alot of plastic on it and that alone should denote a shoddy product. I own a few other Jet tools and am pleased with them.

I am not happy with this thing. If something seems too good to be true, then it probably is. I have run many feet of hard Maple wood through this machine with no Jointer Planer Second Hand problems. Almost no need to sand. For the price you canot do better. Bought this a few weeks ago, and I have been so far, very impressed with it. I bought it for my very small garage shop, and my current project is a replica of the Oseberg Viking bed, made out of white oak.

My observations: 1. You won't be impressed by this tool. I get it that for safety, the dust cover swaps positions, I just wish they had made it a little easier to do. You have to crank the planer all the way down, put in the dust collector, and then raise it back up, after bolting it in place, halfway up.

It just means that you will never be able to quickly take a board from rough to finished, without a minute adjustment in the middle. The instructions for assembly could be better. Especially the bolts that are used to fine tune the out-feed table for the planer. That said, once we figured out where the last two bolts went, the out-feed table trued up nicely.

I used the three big bolts, and leveled where the out-feed table meets the adjustable planer table we laid the planer on its side so we weren't fighting gravity for this bit.. Overall I am quite impressed with this tool. The Jet 10 inch jointer-planer is not capable of properly jointing a board.

The in-feed and out-feed tables are not co-planar. The out-feed table slopes away from the blades, and the in-feed table slopes up toward the blades.

I contacted JET and was promptly emailed the instructions for adjusting the out-feed table. The in-feed table Second Hand Jointer Planer Network can not be adjusted. Obviously, this did not fix the problem. In reality, there isn't really an adjustment built into the out-feed table. Jet is simply using the fact that the holes bored into the out-feed table sides, two on each side and which are used to attach the table to the bed of the jointer, are a bit loose.

The four bolts two on each side are loosened, then the end of the out-feed table is lifted up, pivoting the table around the two bolts nearest the blade and sliding the other two sloppy sized holes upward around their bolts see video.

The bolts are then re-tightened to complete the "adjustment. As this was not a designed mechanism for adjustment, but rather a stop-gap utilizing sloppy machining, the method is NOT included in the manual. If all of the machines have the bolt holes in the same position, then NONE of the machines could possibly properly joint a board. As a matter of fact, I feel owed some compensation for the hours of time spent messing with a machine which any, even remotely objective, quality control process should have identified as irreparably flawed.

It is very disappointing, as the idea of a small footprint 10 inch joint-planer was very attractive, especially at this price point. We will have to wait for another company to do this, or for JET to re-design this item. As it stands, it will not joint boards. I got this on sale at Woodcraft about a year ago and here is my experience: The Good: 1. Space - If you have a small shop, the space profile of this machine can't be beat.

Price The Bad: 1. Controls and adjustments are cheesy. At this price range, I can't really complain 2. Dust collection is spotty - OK with the Jointer, a little less so with the planer 3. Air Tools.
