Creating specific evacuation plans will help our residents be better prepared for our next emergency. A brief survey will help the project team become familiar with Lane County residents' understanding of and preparedness for evacuation due to a wildfire, flood, or other emergency events. The survey is available at www. It will remain open through March 31, The Oregon Department of Forestry ODF along with Oregon State University and other forestry organizations can help address some of the issues that make reforesting challenging.

Abraham added that while these estimates are still preliminary, the possible range of seedlings needed is two to three times the typical number of seedlings needed each year for reforestation in Oregon. Nurseries mostly grow for landowners who are regular buyers of many seedlings and file orders years ahead of time. Few nurseries specialize in forest species to meet the demands for seedlings.

Abraham said availability of seed can sometimes also be an issue. That generally takes two years. While seed inventories are generally strong for most areas of the state, there are some isolated gaps. Abraham said landowners with smaller acreages often need help finding the right seedlings for their zone. In recognition of how hard it is for many landowners to find seedlings, Abraham said they should contact ODF if they need assistance in reforestation.

That surveyed group alone needs about 3. Because of climate change, seedlings planted today will grow and mature in climate conditions different than exist today. On the labor front, Abraham said ODF has lists of current contractors to give landowners who need help planting trees. The agency is also looking at options to help landowners coordinate and work with a single contractor across multiple ownerships to help implement site preparation, planting, and maintenance for family forest landowners.

This approach will make better use of limited contract resources. ODF and OSU Forestry Extension have educational resources and can offer tree planting lessons for people who want to plant trees themselves. For general information, call So Gov. Kate Brown has proclaimed all of April as Oregon Arbor Month, allowing plenty of time for all the tree-related activities and commemorative plantings people want. Extending the focus on trees through the entire month allows activities in all parts of the state to be included," she says.

The non-profit organization Oregon Community Trees supported the move to a month-long recognition of trees. One example Wolf cites is making a pop-up arboretum.

Ramstad says Arbor Month is the perfect time to reflect on the contribution trees make — to our physical, mental and emotional health, to the livability of our communities, to our safety, the quality and quantity of our air and water, and to our economy.

Trees have always been a vital part of the lives of people in the Pacific Northwest, says Ramstad. Later, when settlers from the east made the long, difficult journey to the Oregon territory, seeds and cuttings of fruit and nut trees were among the precious items they carried in their wagons. And although settlers cleared trees for farming and for wood to build their expanding cities, they also planted trees where they did not naturally grow, such as on the Columbia Plateau, and in the new towns and cities.

And with extreme weather events considered more likely, trees are being recognized for the role they play in slowing rainfall runoff and erosion. Ironically, climate change is putting trees at greater risk even as we need their services more than ever.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention CDC issued their first set of public health recommendations for fully vaccinated people on March 8, According to the CDC, in non-healthcare settings, there are some things you can do if you are fully vaccinated:.

Even though you are fully vaccinated, you should still continue to take steps to protect yourself and others in many situations, like wearing a mask, staying at least 6 feet apart from others, and avoiding crowds and poorly ventilated spaces. The CDC asks that you still take these precautions whenever you are:. It is also important to still get tested if you have COVID symptoms, follow guidance issued by individual employers, and follow CDC and health department travel requirements and recommendations.

OHA has updated its face covering guidance , gathering guidance and travel recommendations to align with these changes. We know you are longing to see loved ones, visit friends and maybe sink your toes in the warm sand, and you are not alone. It has been over a year since the pandemic locked down most of the United States, and despite continued guidance from the CDC for Americans to avoid nonessential travel, many Americans are still planning Spring Break vacations.

While the CDC, OHA and local public health recommend that everyone get the COVID vaccine that is eligible, there has not been enough people that have gotten vaccinated to provide enough herd immunity against the virus. However, there still remains a desire to travel for our personal well-being.

So, whether you have been vaccinated or not, there are strategies you can do to help reduce the risks of getting or spreading COVID, if you do plan to get away. First things first, the CDC updated their COVID public health guidelines for those that have been fully vaccinated on March 8, , that greenlights small gatherings between people who have been vaccinated and those who have not, while follwoing certain precautions.

As, such, many older adults, who were first in line for the vaccine, now feel a newfound freedom to visit their friends, children and grandchildren.

Emily Landon, an infectious disease expert at the University of Chicago. Given the risks of isolation and loneliness, visiting loved-ones, " I think that actually counts as essential travel at this point, from a mental health standpoint ," Landon says.

The key is to take precautions and be smart about your travel. So, stay-tuned-in for parts of our series on planning a spring break get-away. All vaccine doses received this week have been deployed to local approved vaccinators throughout the county.

Recreation restrictions occur in designated plover management areas: small stretches of beach along the entire coastline where plovers are nesting or could potentially nest. These areas collectively comprise about 40 miles of Oregon's miles of shoreline.

Detailed maps can be found on the Oregon State Parks website oregon. Winter storms and high tides have pushed plover to the north side of Sand Lake in Tillamook County.
