I have read some very negative comments on critical issues with the Rikon, especially with adjustment for the lower bearing guides.

Based on this review and the comments, I will soon be purchasing the Laguna saw. Great review and very detailed. Any thoughts on Laguna BX? Is it worth the upcharge for a break system. I am a hobby woodworker and had a 9 inch Black and Decker table top bandsaw. It went out with the trash after 10 years of frustration Not sure if I should go with the or BX. Any long term updates you could share? I am going to buy a bandsaw soon and this is my likely choice. I too worry about the dust collection.

Hi Joe. The saw has continued to perform like a champ. I found that in practice the single dust collection port was not a problem. The inside of the cabinet remained pretty clean during heavy use and overall I feel that it collects well for a bandsaw. Just purchased one of these guys, this review helped a lot. Can you tell me the height of the stand? The specs only have the height of the table and the height of the total machine. This is going to be a Birthday present by my Family to me I guess 70 is a magic number I have been looking for a while And it can be a little overwhelming.

After prolonged discussions and email with Laguna customer service they agreed to replace both. Yes, the locking knob is completly loose. Mechanism seems to fall apart when the wheel is loosened, and only is correctly by tightening it very tightly. The lower ones are pretty much inaccessible. Tightening the lower ones take a pair of long reach water pump pliers for me to get at them. Maybe I got a lemon. I agree! At first I was happy with it but after I have had it for a while my opinion has changed.

Some of these might seem picky but at this price point my expectations are higher and these should not be an issue. Which is slightly scary when you are working with wood. Furthermore, one of the lower blocks keeps sliding out and falling off. I often find it laying inside the cabinet and have to re-install it. I am waiting for the day it gets sucked up by the dust collector. The greatest depth of re-saw that I have done is 8 inches. And truthfully HSS blades need to be longer to handle greater depths because the blade gets really hot.

I had to spend more money to get the mobile base and its terrible. Bolts will randomly fall off, because the feet on the base scrape the floor when the lift wheel is engaged in the up position. So I have to lift up on the saw to prevent the scraping but then the feet fall out. There is a magnetic strip that holds a protective door over the blade.

That strip was the first to fall off. The configuration of the saw makes it really difficult to change the blade. The vertical saw support has a slit in it to Laguna Proforce Bandsaw Blade Review Data accept the blade, but its really hard getting the blade into and out of this slit. Every time I put a blade in the teeth rub on it and I feel like I am dulling half the teeth on the blade. Here in the past month the saw has started to shake.

I am unsure why. I am concerned the upper wheel is out of balance some how. Sorry, but it sounds like poor assembly and maintenance from whomever assembled and is operating it. Believe it or not, it is possible to get a lemon…. Just purchased the 14 12, in part because of your review. Can you describe how you set-up the guides? The manual says some of the guides should touch the blade, a series of YouTube videos I believe produced by Laguna says all the guides should touch the blade, and when I spoke to customer service, I was told that none of the guides should touch the blade.

Hi Jeff. I have always set the guides so that they are in contact on all 10 points. The ceramic should just kiss the blade and it will do a great job supporting it. Thanks for your reply Paul — much appreciated.

Just a bit confused, what are the 10 points? Laguna had me adjust the bottom wheel by loosening all the bolts … Then the teeth on the blade guide bar got stripped — the rack and pinon was completely loose when turning it. I had to send a video to Laguna to ilustrate the situation. Problem still remains. Now to issues with the upper guide blocks. Wheel adjustments and blade tension are easy and precise.

The complaints are all minor, but enough to prevent me from giving this saw 5 stars. By Makoto Ohira on July 31, Images in this review.

I love this thing. The guides and bearings don't just suddenly decide to move around. The blade stays where I adjust it to on the wheels. The vacuum port is where it is supposed to be. The motor turns without hesitation, even when resawing kingwood!!! I bought the tool specifically to do that job, and boy did it handle everything I threw at it.

There are surely bigger, badder, nicer bandsaws out there- but for my shop, it fits perfectly. All in all, I couldn't be happier with the first major upgrade my shop has gotten in 15 years. I only have had two minor issues- I don't like the original fence setup, which is purely preference; and easily solved with an aftermarket fence.

And the light: Laguna wants way too much for what you get. There are literally thousands of better and less expensive but not poor quality lighting options out there. I installed a few LED sets, a strip set under the top housing, and 3 10W Cree lamps in adjustable magnetic bases. The saw has an easily accessible way to power them all, though, so this wasn't even really a problem.

The Laguna blades are also over priced, although their resaw blade is pretty good- but the resaw king is better, and costs less. I absolutely love the guides on this saw. I can't say enough good things about them. Easy to use, easy to setup, easy to maintain, zero reliability issues, plenty of horses to get the job done. I just received my Laguna bandsaw in the past week, so I haven't had much time to use it. What little I have used it I have liked it. It has been highly and positively reviewed by many.

I will address getting it out of the packaging and assembling it. First I have little experience with bandsaws, but a lot of working and shop tool experience. I found the Owners' Manual to be lacking a lot. It is not very detailed or clear. The best I have seen is the SawStop table saw manual, which is fantastic. If that is an "A" the Laguna manual is a "C-". However, I found on the Internet not indicated in the manual a very good video produced by Laguna on how to unpack, assembly, adjust, use, and maintain the bandsaw.

The link is: [ It is very helpful, much more so than the manual alone. The two together are great. I recommend that you read the manual and watch the video before you unpack and assembly the bandsaw. I also purchased the Work light and the mobility base, which are common accessories with the bandsaw. The work light was missing the small package of parts needed to install the light. This is the second Laguna product I have purchased and both had missing parts. However, the Customer Service is fantastic.

They got right on this and helped me out. Another warning. My fense was not square with the table. When I put a square next to it the fence had a 2. The video kinds of addresses this, but the solution offered will not work for this much of a gap. When I contacted customer service they indicated there had been Laguna Proforce Bandsaw Blade Review Guitar a design change, which was not in the manual or on the video that made this adjustment easy. They had added to set screws to the backside of the fence bracket.

I was able then to quickly square up the fence. I am glad I bought it. I expect to really like it, but Laguna Bandsaw Blade Reviews 9th I thought my experience might be of help to others.

I have struggled for years with resawing with my old 14" bandsaw. Was it my technique? My blade? My karma? After breaking my old bandsaw twice by trying to put expensive, thick, carbide blades on it, I opted to send it to the curb and try the Laguna.

No stalling, no bucking, no wandering, no problem. So many improved features, so quiet, so professional. Easy instructions and set up took a hour. One cutting machine! I was able to assembly without assistance. Directions say when you lay saw down on it's back to install base to support the motor. Found out the hard way that's because it's weight makes it very heavy on left side and it won't lay Laguna Proforce Bandsaw Blade Review Us flat without putting something under the motor also.

Note unit does not come with a blade so you'll have to order one extra. I read directions and also watched Laguna's Youtube videos which was extremely helpful in setup and blade installation. This saw is heavy duty and well built. Plan on using the dust collection port as the beast makes LOTS of sawdust.

Why did I ever wait to get this great band-saw. Do keep forgetting to throw the tension arm before starting Not good on the blades. Will add a cord to the arm and a highly visible tag as a reminder. Like having the electrical outlet on support column. One person found this helpful. Bryan C.

Greifinger Top Contributor: Woodworking. This was quite an educational experience putting this unit together. My problem arose when i tried to install the blade. First problem was the upper wheel wound up being so high up that i couldn't put the blade over it. But this was my fault since i must have adjusted something inappropriately at first.

But once tech support helped me fix the adjustments for that i noticed I couldn't turn the bottom wheel without a grinding sound. This of course made centering the blade impossible. Tech support and i traced the problem to a damaged motor fan and cover that must have occured either in shipping or before it was loaded for shipping.

Both pieces were sent as replacements and then centering the blade was no trouble at all.
