After that, it may or may not hold. So, how do you know how old the glue was when you bought it? Titebond prints a code for the date of the manufacture. It is a good idea to write the date on the bottle when you buy it. Titebond bottles show the year the glue was made followed by the month "A" through "M;" the letter "I" is not used.
Example: 7A 7 would be year , A would be January, and would be the batch number. Brice Burrell Posts: Remodeling Contractor. Matthew Schenker Posts: James, Thanks for explaining this. I've found it great to work with. Nice time to work it and it cleans with warm water almost perfectly oozing out of bonds etc. Cleans up easily with damp cloth. It's really good for quick jobs, when you don't want to bother with hot glue. I have been using this for over a decade now and will never go back to the glue pot.
Works every bit as good, clean up and dispensing is much easier and the shop doesn't smell all day. Was able to attach the neck on my older Hofner Senator archtop guitar. Neck had become loose and once strings were removed, I was able to remove the entire neck without damage. Cleaned the area for gluing on both the body and neck. Applied hide glue to both areas, clamped them together and let them clamped for 48 hours.
That was it. Restrung guitar and started playing. Great product for guitar repair and maintenance. And think this is a great glue to have around for those jobs that take a little extra time. I am a pro luthier from Napoli - Italy and I have used this glue for several years.
It is a great overall glue. So much easier to use than hot hide glue but almost as strong. PROs: it is easy to use, easy to clean, strong and reliable. Easy to disassemble even if hot hide glue is even easier. It is strong enough for gluing classical guitar bridges CONs: amount of urea and antioxidant is not very consistent so sometimes it takes ages to dry too much urea requiring clamping time up to 4 days for highly stressed joints. Sometimes there is so much anti-oxidant that it penetrates the wood.
Good to glue bridge. Working with this glue is easy and so is the cleanup.
