I had trouble with those and switched to these brackets from Rockler — rockler. But will give the ones you used a second try since I still have a set and plan to build a king size bed, My problem with the brackets was with the claw side. Once screwed on they were difficult to insert. I will try loosening the screws and then tightening them after like you suggest doing. Thank you for sharing your awesome talent and creativity. The stringers should be 6 ft 10 inches instead of the listed 6 ft 8 inches.
