Verified Purchase. I have used a home-made taper jig and found it a little unsafe, so that is why I bought the Microjig. The basic idea is sound enough, and the preset settings for angle and amount of drop per foot are accurate.

That adds considerably to the cost for what's essentially a bunch of plastic that you have to assemble yourself. More serious, though, is that the weakest link in the assembly is the process of attaching the two grippers to the taper jig. There are so many ways this can introduce error or slop in the cut, that it becomes a time consuming pain to set it all up. Even though I set up with great care and ran a test blank, I still managed to ruin a table leg on my first actual production run.

They should have put their energy into solid design instead of accessories. Carefully designed and very versatile taper jig, especially if you already use Grrripper products which I do. Also incredible customer service. Being a wood butcher like so many of us, I tried to work on a narrow leg design and managed to cut off the corner of the jig.

The results of using this device were very satisfactory. I therefore DO recommend this item. I bought this more for a straight line rip for rough lumber, as an alternative to double taping a straight edge and using the fence.

This setup is very sketchy if the board is longer than the saw top especially. Two grippers and their associated cost have to be mounted and the whole setup is still not all that robust. I am not talking about logs I am talking about 1x8 2S lumber. I would not buy this again. I like more product than not from Gripper, this is not one of them.

This tapering jig is well-built, well-designed, and highly versatile, with a price commensurate with its construction. However, it may be beyond what the casual woodworker really needs if all you want to do is taper a table leg. The old-fashioned homemade "V" jig, requiring only two sticks, a bolt and an adjustable cross piece will do basically the same thing. This is a very useful product, is sturdy and well engineered. Like other Microjig it seems a bit expensive, but they do the job.

I wish they would sell parts for the tapering jig separately: I can tell from experience already, that the little catch to pull pieces through the cutting, as well as the length of the base itself, will end up getting nicked and probably need replacing.

This jig was instrumental in my latest project tapering 3" wood carving blanks to use for a speaker stand. My blanks were 32" long and I think this is probably the maximum safe length that it could be used for.

I did have to jimmy it a bit to support the weight of the blanks my table saw isn't too big, so with a larger table, you wouldn't have to worry about this.

It was pretty expensive, but I am glad I purchased. I would have wasted expensive material in trial and error without this. Bryan C. Greifinger Top Contributor: Woodworking. Not quite that intuitive. I did eventually figure it out.

Top reviews from other countries. Really like this product. It replaces my aluminum Taiwanese one which has also been good but this has a lot of Woodworking Router Table Fence Value settings that give precision cuts and comfortable control.

Report abuse. I have not used it yet but it appears to be good quality and it'll get the job done! One complaint, just a little flimsy, could be beefed up a little. Excellent product way to Micro jig..
