And the slides components do not detach from each other so that is not an option. You can still access all the holes on the inner slide after attaching the outer slide to the the structure so that is probably the best order.

So far all 20 sets have operated flawlessly. On my last project I needed 11 drawer slides. Since these come in packages of 10, I bought the last one from a big box store.

The big box store slide made me appreciate how good the Promark slides really are. I spent some time trying to align the slide from the big box store because the operation was notably rougher than the Promark slides. In my experience if a slide does not operate smooth as silk it is generally caused by installation alignment issues.

It turns out the big box store drwawer slide was just not as smooth as the Promark slides even though it cost twice as much. With this scenario, the pin on the drawer side cannot engage the C-clip to engage the soft-close mechanism. The fix may be difficult without removing the whole slide if used on a mounted cabinet. Since my chest of drawers has a removeable rear panel, I had access to the rear of the drawer slide.

Looking at the mechanism from the rear allowed me to close the drawer until the pin rested against the C-clip and, with rearward closing pressure, use a flat blade screwdriver to pry the drawer side away from the frame to allow the pin to clear the "C" and drop into that "C" when releasing the screwdriver.

Shimming where necessary to make sure the pin will no longer bylass the C-clip is crucial. Now my drawers work as intended and all soft-close mechanisms survived the initial unintended abuse they took while I was troubleshooting.
