We have good success with DoAll penetrator bi-metal blades. Whatever you choose, try to get them to issue one as guaranteed test, if it doesn't perform well no harm no foul.
We cut a wide variety of materials and never change the blade. We cut, aluminum, low carbon steel, lots of annealed and pre-hard , tool steels, and cast iron. The Lennox blades work really good. I think quality control is the biggest issue for me.
We have had brands that worked pretty good and then we would have a run of bad blades that were total crap and the salesmen would come out and look at our set-up and speeds and feeds and make really stupid comments and offer some pathetic discount on our next order etc etc.
One time, in front of the salesman and the company rep that I will leave nameless for now, I used their recommendations in cutting a chunk of and they watched in amazement as the teeth stripped off and then offered some lame excuses as to why it was the saw's fault!
Morons - get out of my shop! BT Fabrication , Garwood , talvare liked this post. Thanks for all of the feedback gentlemen.
I will definitely look into a couple of the sources recommended here. A couple that were recommended I have already used or have at least checked their websites. I typically use Starrett or Lenox blades and really can't complain about the quality, but it seems that they are getting pretty pricey, hence my main reason for inquiring about other options. I probably shouldn't complain about prices as I don't go through many blades in a year.
Thanks again for the help. Joe Miranda liked this post. On our horizontal saw, it is not uncommon for us to have a blade last many months at a time. And this is in a fairly heavily used job shop setting. We honestly cannot be happier with the performance of Lenox blades.
Oh yeah, disclaimer, I am not in any way paid for this endorsement nor do I have any connection to their company - just a very satisfied user. Join Date May Location southern in.
My experience has been that while Lenox blades are good, the Starrett blades do last a little longer, although they cost a little more. Pretty much a toss up when figuring dollars.
My preferred supplier is bandsaw blades direct. I used to use sawblade. Also a few welded inside out, Which is a pain in the hands to flip right side out.
I bought some from sawblade. They also have an Indian call center that calls frequently wanting you to reorder? I hate that! I have found Starrett bi-metal variable pitch blades to be superior. Take note of the recommended break-in procedure. It makes a big difference. Or shop hard on eBay I use Lennartz in Germany.
Fhat was two weeks ago. I'm sure they will ship to the USA. Cost nothing. Ask for a quote. I've picked up a bunch of partial rolls of bandsaw blade stock and I silver solder them myself. Made a jig to hold the blade end at an angle to grind an overlap on both ends and another jig to hold the blade while I torch it.
