I agree with Gary. Never have been disappointed with Mr. I think one of the reasons the release of these tools caused a lot of discussion was for just that reason. They DO make it hard to tell the difference between quality and junk. Who has the time or ability to perform an in-depth review of a hand plane in the aisle of a Woodcraft?

I, too would like to know how to distinguish the new, improved models from the older, flawed ones. Thanks for the information Chris. The blade was surprisingly sharp out of the box, the sole very flat and the sides were at 90 degrees which is good because this is a good plane for shooting. The aluminum cap is a bit cheap feeling but has worked OK so far. Adjustments are quick and easy. Little bad to say. If you are on a budget and can't afford the Veritas or LN, this a plane you may not brag about to friends, but will find yourself reaching for frequently and not be disappointed.
