Kreg will sharpen them but I also wanted to get the hex shank to make it so it would slip in my drill chuck. My original bit got dull after 4 years of heavy use. I have bought a lot of Kreg screws so I know that I have used the drill bit a lot. I also use this with my Snappy tools quick changer so I can drill and then install the screws quicker.

I like to use a drill over an impact driver to install the screws so they don't go too far and poke through.
