I just hope it holds up in the long run. I purchased this planer because I was doing a large project and expect to do more that required a lot of rough cut lumber be prepared. There was some chip-out but that's next to impossible to avoid on wood with highly figured grain. It had no problems at all with straight grain woods like Mahogany and Walnut. I had it out of the box and planing in 15 minutes tops. It's got 3 blades, so they last longer than a 2 blade machine, and it's got two feed speeds - slow for sizing and fast for finishing.

The finish setting does a very good job. I'd still recommend some hand scraping after if you want a really fine finish, but this planer greatly reduces the amount of hand tooling required. If you work with rough cut lumber a good planer like this one is a must have. Both the planer and table saw are easy to change blades on and have good dust collection setups, which saves a tone of time in cleanup.

I don't know what the factory had to do for reconditioning, but it looks brand new to me. I like the large side wheel, it's much better than the old Craftsman top cranks I had. It arrived in fine shape and was reasonably well packaged. Everything inside looked brand new, though there were a few "inspected" stickers on it, so it may have been refurbished. I'm told that new over stocks are sometimes sold as refurbished to avoid putting new items "on sale. The feed system is good, the vacuum system is also good.
