The thicknesser function has been of more use to me, but today by chance I measured the walnut plank I was milling and found a 2mm difference in side to side thickness - 19mm on the right and 17mm on the left.
This has been caused by a shift in the thicknesser bed, tilting it off level. I will say that I have not noticed such a discrepancy before and this may have been caused by the sheer weight of the workpiece. I have, however, noticed significant snipe on the workpieces since purchase, but usually just factored this in as waste.
This is fine until you use more expensive woods where 30 - 40mm isn't acceptable waste. In summary, this is a cheap product which, I believe, is better suited to infrequent and light duty jobs. I would not recommend it to anyone that is looking for any real degree of precision, or use with heavier workpieces.
This is such a shame as the machining width of mm ish would be extremely useful for larger workpieces, reducing the need for jointing As of today, mine has been retired! Date published: Rated 3 out of 5 by Creeps from You get what you pay for. Firstly screwfix customer service was excellent. That is 5 star all day long. Easy to put together and set up. Initially it was all fine, does well on the planer side to Makita Planer Jointer Youtube get a straight edge and I was impressed.
The thicknesser was ok at first with a few test pieces, even making a wood brick that came out well. I then decided to put some older wood through to clean it up, but honestly didn't clean up as much as I thought. I didn't think I was over working the machines limits, but there was snip, burn, rough patches.
I tried all the tricks to improve via you tube videos but I just couldn't get a decent finsh on any type of wood. I'd only had a few weeks and after talking with screwfix I took the option to return. This process was faultless. Overall of you only need now and again with minor usage this may be for you, but I'll probably save a few more. Pennies and upgrade next time, but it's been a few months and I've not rushed out and bought one yet realising how little I use it haha..
Good luck.. Rated 5 out of 5 by Diyoxford22 from Superb thicknesser I bought this to plane some freshly cut timber. Although I was originally nervous as it seemed cheap compared to other products available , I was amazed at how robust the product is.
It is a solid machine yet it offers a very close cut that requires very little sanding afterwards. I have been very impressed with it and could not be happier with my purchase. Has this item been discontinued? Will this or the Erbauer be back in stock soon. When will this be back in stock? It has been out of stock in store and online for a while now. Is there anymore stock coming in anytime soon?
