Reassembled and went to work on a rough plank of oak. It's a very heavy plane, well built and nice brass fittings. I've not seen any evidence of it so far but I suspect it's cheap steel but it sharpened up really well. It did a great job on tha t plank of oak, the weight combined with the glide was great.
