The lower base is tinny and the small cheap plastic wheels are too small and weak for a machine of this weight; even the slightest impact would cause noticeable dents and deformation of the sheet metal.

My biggest complaint on the machine is that it does not hold it's elevation even when locked down when planing tough hardwoods such as quarter sawn White Oak or Brazilian Cherry.

With these challenging materials I had to take much lighter passes on the slower feed rate; for most other hardwoods like Poplar, mahogany, and cherry this planer was fine. Again, if you are a hobbyist and time is not a problem, this would be acceptable, but for the professional, you want another machine.

I think this machine is too-flimsy to be considered to be a workhorse of a professional shop and you are going to be better off getting an American made year old Powermatic, or a newer used SCMI. I would never buy the Powermatic Model again.

Delivery people were terrible!!!! They laughed at me when I said I wanted it in my back shed. Amazon needs to know who they are hiring for Delivery. I have a long drive way but it is all new concrete They were suckin wind and frankly appeared high to me. Very disappointed in Delivery!!! Wound up returning plainer due to deception in wiring in my new shed.

Equipment looked nice and excellent quality! This tool has lived up to every expectation. The powermatic tech support is great. I would suggest using the e-mail support for any warranty claims as the phone line seems to be very busy. The planer arrived in perfect condition in a very sturdy crate. It was in good adjustment. I have made some minor adjustments to the bed rollers.

It was very easy to do. I haven't adusted or replaced the knives yet. If you can afford it definetly go for the shelix cutterhead. The dust collection hood isn't set up for flex hose but just add a ridgid 45 and it works great. The motor is very strong I haven't had it bog down with anything including quartersawn oak.

I don't think I would recommend this machine if you are looking for a "finish planer" if one exists. This machine is made for making rough sawn lumber smooth not making planed lumber smoother. The only thing I would add is to make the cast iron wings collapsable so it could take up less room when not in use, but then I wouldn't need to buy a bigger shop.

I own a 15 year old model 66 presumably not built in indonesia or wherever there manufacturing plant is located currently. All manufacturing jobs are going overseas. I was hesitant to purchase the saw because it is manufactured as we genericaly say, in China. The planer is heavy!!! Dont ever do that, its lazy, hazardous, can destroy equipment, and a planer can lose a blade with horrible consequence. It planes and planes without a grunt, even on a 5inch thick slab of mahogany 16inches wide formally a floor joist in an old church.

It is boringly consistent and the finished product can be sanded with just grit handheld orbital, and then pre-finish sanding. The planer is heavy!!!. Place it where it does not have to be moved. It is amazingly quite just kidding. It is an excellent product. It sounds like a recording, but this is a tool you can rely on, no need for a backup. And Walter Miere the manufacturer is rock solid on warranty or service work. This plainer is just what I needed in my single phase shop.

It was free shipping over the holidays. That is a big deal because it weighs over pounds. FedEx shipped it and it came in the original crate with no damage or rust. FedEx was very helpful at my place of business , bringing in this plainer into my shop here in the hill country.
