Joined Nov 3, Messages I took my boat to a different lake for the first time and when I pulled it out there was a brownish film that Boat Gel Coat Stain Removal Size stained the white hull and sides. I tried some wax to remove it but did not come off. My hull used to be nice and white but it has a brownish or yellowed stain from the water line down. What can I use to clean this back to a white finish??? Thank you.

I'm a little skeptical after trying the muriatic acid. It didn't even attack the gelcoat. No bubbling or anything, just horrible fumes. PS, the boat is outside and uncovered while cleaning is going on. I'm worried that after so many years without treating the stains, they've set in enough to be permanent. Is there any hope for the stains lightening up and being bleached by the sun?
Probably not, huh Regarding chemicals leaking into my fuel tank compartments, my compartments are sealed with some kind of polyurethane sealant. As added protection, I made a dam using rolled up towels and duck tape, and sprinkled a heavy line of baking soda to neutralize any acid that dripped back. The acid was then swabbed up with copious amounts of water and neutralized with baking soda.
There are no fasteners or metalics in the vicinity. Mar 12, 8. Cleaning rust Maa, If you don't have success with any of the other cleaners mentioned I had very good luck getting stains off off non skid areas using boiling hot water and oxyclean mixed to a paste consistency.
I scrubbed this in with a stainless or brass wire brush. It did not harm the fiberglass and it actually removed stains that acetone would not touch. Just make sure you wear latex gloves- Its pretty tuff on the skin.
